The Party Season
21 December, 2006
This season I've been highly in the party mood and spirits. I was always excited to find a new cooking I've never seen or been eating before. A good thing is I never had my zip undone after leaving the party. Unfortunately this hasn't changed the number of the weighing scales that I stood on yesterday. I wonder where the bunch of those foods were gone?
After singing in the confirmation mass last Saturday, some people who get involved in church ministry including my choir group were invited to have a special lunch with bishop. I couldn't find an empty seat in the same table with bishop, so I joined 3 other choir members and other people from a different ministry in the table right next to bishops. The day after, some friends who sat next to bishop said that they didn't feel comfortable talking with him... hahaha that's your mistake, guys! You the one was excited and chose to have a seat closer to "the big man", now you regret it! Anyhow, I could say it was such a lovely private party I've ever had. The nice thing is the bishop came over and greeted everybody who were still enjoying their food in the table just to say "it was nice to meet you" and "goodbye" as he had to leave the church right then.
Another party I really enjoyed much is Simbang Gabi, the Filipino Christmas mass and party. Yup, my Filipino friend invited me last Tuesday evening to come to this party with her big family. The mass was in English language but most the songs were in Philippine language. I was surprised when I found the reception hall had been packed with the people who were looking at the foods with starving eyes. I bet they didn't attend the whole mass. However, I understand now why they were doing that way. Absolutely all the foods looked delicious and seemed most of them are restaurants-made. The line was not moving soon I had my plate and fork. It made me a little upset to see one by one came interrupting the line. The line didn't even change when my friend's husband told everyone around that I am from Indonesia who'd like to taste Filipino dishes, so that way we expected people could move and head me to the foods. Unfortunately, it didn't work. Twenty minutes being stuck in the line, my friend pulled my hand to stay away the behind line and interrupted the people in the front line who were busy getting some foods.

My trick is using the words like "excuse me, I forgot to get that one. It looks tasty!" Surprisingly it worked and people didn't get bothered this way hihihihi. What impressed me a lot among their foods is "lechon" (whole roast pig) which tasted pretty good. The way they cook the pig similar to our food called "kambing guling" (whole roast goat). Poor little thing, the cute pork was desperately laying down the plate and was ready being torn apart and swallowed up by hungry people.
